Super late response for MISANTHROPE
Okay so i didn't remember my password for a while, Got it eventually but for the moment the response. Well Misanthrope was a interesting read the names were a bit difficult but the events that happen through out was pretty good. The names of the characters we kind annoying i honestly was confused at certain points. I would mistake other characters but i got it eventually.Alceste is the main character and is kinda a weirdo and kinda has a messed up sense on the world. Alceste is in the camp of brutal honesty, which puts him at odds with Oronte when he correctly identifies his insipid poetry as awful, and with his love Celimene , who lives her life by the opposite code. Celimene delights in playing her suitors against each other, saying one thing to their faces and another behind their backs. Meanwhile, her cousin Eliante and her “friend” Arsinoe try desperately to dissuade Alceste from his affections, admiring him as much for his honesty as others admire Celimene for her coquettishness. Sexual politics, it seems, were not so different in the 1600s–according to this play, women are either angels or demons in the eyes of men, depending on their actions. Though Alceste knows the absolute irrational nature of his love for Celimene, it nonetheless exists, and confirms for her the success of her approach to romance. In the end Celimene is kinda easy and ends up with no one which was kinda funny to me in the end.
